Cathaleen Canfield, DVM CVA

Dr. Canfield is a 1997 graduate of Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in southwestern Michigan and began riding horses at an early age. She competed on the Arabian circuit focusing on Saddleseat and Western disciplines. After graduation from veterinary school, she moved to California and began working at the racetracks in Southern California with Dr. Shields’ practice. In 2005 she started her own practice, Canfield Equine Practice, Inc., working with race, show and pleasure horses. In addition to working with Dr. Ouellette’s practices, she also provides general anesthesia services for local surgeons for orthopedic, upper airway, and ophthalmology cases. Special interests are lameness, anesthesiology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dentistry and acupuncture. In her spare time she enjoys riding horses, photography, bicycling and spending time with her husband Lalo.

Jackie Friedlander, DVM


Dr. Friedlander is a 2011 graduate of Western University, School of Veterinary Medicine and owner of Equine Mobile Diagnostics.  She has been working with Elite Equine Veterinary Services since June of 2011. She was born and raised in the Brentwood area of West Los Angeles and began riding horses at the age of 4. She spent many years on the hunter-jumper ‘A’ circuit with Rob Gage Stables at Middle Ranch before leaving the horse show world to dedicate more time to her growing horse training and riding lesson business. Her interests in veterinary medicine are lameness diagnostics and therapies, ophthalmology, and internal medicine. Dr. Friedlander is a member of the California Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Friedlander is also an approved veterinarian for the EEMP (Equine Medication Monitoring Program) and is licensed to draw blood from horses at shows and sales to test for banned medications. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys reading, running with her chocolate Labrador, Colt, and camping in the Santa Ynez and Carmel Valleys with her husband, horses and dog.

Winner’s Circle Ranch is an Equine Rehabilitation and Treatment Center located in Bradbury Estates, California. At the Ranch, owner and lead Veterinarian Dr. Don Shields utilizes cutting-edge technologies, advanced veterinary therapeutics and rehabilitation techniques that stimulate and improve healing in injured patients. As the inventor of the Statison V low-intensity pulsed ultrasound therapy device, Dr. Shields is a specialist in ultrasound-guided stem cell and Platelet Rich Plasma treatments to the injured tendons and ligaments of athletic horses.

In addition to providing excellent Veterinary care, the Ranch is equipped with 30 stalls for stabling, walking rings for Eurociser Conditioning, and round-the-clock feeding and grooming, all just minutes away from the Santa Anita Racetrack.
